China's first railway bridge using gluing
technology was completed on Saturday in Zhoukou, central China's Henan
Province, marking a breakthrough in China's railroad construction technology.
The railway bridge is part of the
high-speed line linking Zhengzhou in central China and Fuyang, east China. The
bridge sections were assembled on site and stuck together with a special kind
of epoxy glue, a resin that acts as an extremely strong adhesive through
chemical reaction.
"Compared with the traditional
construction technology of continuous beam, this technology is compact, causes
less pollution and consumes less energy. It represents the future development
direction of railway bridge construction in China," said Li Aiguo, head of
the Zhengzhou-Fuyang high-speed rail project.
