Hefei’s new airport, Hefei Xinqiao International Airport, officially opened for business on May 30, 2013, and Hefei Luogang International Airport closed forever once the new airport was in operation. The new airport project was launched in 2005 and construction of Hefei Xinqiao Airport began in Dec. 2008. It took 8 years from the site selection to the completion of the first phase of construction, which is designed to meet the demand of handling 11 million passengers and 150,000 tonnes of cargo and mail by 2020. Once the second and third phase of project is completed, Xinqiao Airport is expected to handle 60 million passengers annually.


 


 

  In April, 2013, ACIannounced the winners of the ASQ awards for 2012. Hohhot Airport, located in the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region of China, was named Best Airport in the final 2-5 million passengers category. The passenger volume at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) in 2012 reached 81.93 million, ranking the second in the over 40 million passengers category. Tianjin, Wuhan, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Shanghai Hongqiao, Shanghai Pudong, Hong Kong, Guangzhou were honoured to be recipients of this awards by different size.

 

 

 

 

 

Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK), the gateway that connects the popular tourist destination Hainan island with the rest of the world, opened its new international terminal on Aug. 14, 2013, according to information learned from the airport.The new terminal building, located to the east of the existing terminal, started construction on Apr. 18, 2011. Starting from Aug. 14, 2013, the International Concourse in the existing terminal will go out of service, and all international passengers will need to check in and board their planes in the new terminal.

 



    In May, 2013, in order to ease the shortage of aircraft stands at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA) decided to invest 1.5 billion yuan to build an east apron and expand the existing south apron. The expanded south apron was expected to enter service in Dec. 2014, while the east apron will not start operation until Dec. 2015.

 Yangshan Deep-Water Port (洋山深水港) is a deep-water port for container ships in Hangzhou Bay south of Shanghai. Built to allow the Port of Shanghai to grow despite shallow waters near the shore, it allows berths with depths of up to 15 meters to be built, can handle today’s largest container ships. The port is built on the island of Greater and Lesser Yangshan, part of the Zhoushan archipelago, with fill from land reclamation.


       In 2000 and 2001, the decision was made to commence construction on the first of four phases. The first two phases have nine berths in total along a 3 km quayside. The first phase, which opened in 2004, can accommodate 2.2 million containers annually and includes 10 quay cranes. The second phase was opened in December 2006, and comprises 72 hectares with 15 quay cranes. The third phase, opened in stages, was completed in 2010 with seven berths. The fourth phase, expected to open in 2015, will add 4 million TEUs to the port's annual capacity.

      The total cost of building the port may reach US$12 billion over 20 years.When complete, the port will have 30 berths capable of handling 15 million TEUs annually.



Guangzhou Port is the biggest comprehensive hub port in South China. Guangzhou Port comprises 4600 berths, 133 buoys and 2359 anchorages each of 1,000 tonnage class and the largest capacity is 3,000 tons. The port is currently dredging to allow 100,000 tonnes vessels to enter Nansha terminal in low tide. In 1999, Port of Guangzhou surpassed its annual cargo throughput of 100 million tons. It is the second port inMainland Chinato ranked with such record volume. In 2006, the whole Guangzhou Port surpassed 300 million tons (ranking the third in China's coastal ports and the fifth among the world top ten ports) and 665 million TEUs, and Guangzhou Port reached 201 million tons and 4.774 million TEUs.
